Description

The Tayrona National Park is a little slice of paradise and an absolute “must do” on your Colombian itinerary.

Nominated by UNESCO as one of the five most important national parks in the world, visiting Tayrona Park is one of the most memorable things you can do in Colombia. The Tayrona park sits along the Caribbean Sea, giving visitors a chance to revel in the combination of tropical beach and exotic jungle.

With its white sandy beaches, crystal clear waters and dense tropical jungle, it is a biodiverse hub of wildlife and nature, easily accessible from nearby Santa Marta. Exploring further into the rainforest, there is evidence of the ancient civilizations that once lived here as the jungle has several archaeological sites. The park is sacred to the indigenous Kogui tribe and preserving this pristine and culturally significant area is very important.

Although it is considered as one of Colombia’s main tourist attractions, many travelers find it difficult to prepare for a day trip to Tayrona Park. Read the following tour options before trekking into the jungle and diving into the picturesque blue waters.

Option transport by land

Our private driver and tour guide will meet you at your accommodation and drive you through Santa Marta’s city center, taking the Troncal del Caribe road as a route, for approximately 45 minutes to the main entrance of the Tayrona Park: El Zaino. Technical stop to buy the entrance tickets and after that you’ll drive for 10 minutes’ to the parking area of Cañaveral where our driver will drop you off and let the hiking begin! The guided ecological hike will last approximately 1 hour from the sector of Cañaveral to the sector of Arrecifes. (Beautiful spot to enjoy the natural scenery and take pictures). From there, 40 minutes’ walk through a mixed area of beaches and tropical forest passing the beaches of Arenillas and La Piscina, to reach the famous Cabo San Juan sector. You’ll have some free time for lunch and to enjoy the beautiful beach. Finally, the hike back to the parking area of Cañaveral will be approximately 1 hour and 45.

Please note: You may also want to consider the option to travel, at an additional price, on horseback for one-way or both ways as well. The tour guide will help you negotiate with the locals to pay a fair price.

Option transport by sea

For this VIP and comfortable option, your private driver will pick you up from your accommodation and drive you to board the speedboat at Santa Marta’s central port. You will travel between Santa Marta and Tayrona National Park in style on a private speedboat for approximately 1 hour. It is the fastest and most practical way to reach the beautiful national park. During the boat ride to Cabo San Juan, you’ll pass jungle scenery and avoid the long walk to the official entrance of Tayrona, arriving directly on the beach instead. A perfect way to enjoy the views of the natural park and swim in the crystal-clear waters of this tropical paradise without the fatigue of hiking for 2 hours to get to the place.
